art expertise

My expertise is contemporary art from and in the “Global South”. I am interested in understanding the role of art in societies as well as the production, dissemination and collection or acquisition of art. Art has always been and turned into a means of domestic and foreign politics in various fields, be they local or global. Especially since the introduction of the China-led “Belt and Road Initiative” in 2013, cultural politics emerge as a new field of negotiating power, hegemony and regional identities in the “Global South”, more precisely in Asia.

My research includes (postcolonial) art agency, cultural elites, symbolic capital and the contemporary role of cultural politics in the “Global South”.
